FAQ’s

What are you looking for in an ideal application?

We want to continue to support young people in the borough and recognise that, since we launched our inaugural grant round in 2020, the challenges faced by young people are greater than ever.

Therefore, our focus for the 2024 grant round will be to support organisations that are meeting ‘frontline’ challenges – such as basic needs provision – as a priority; but are doing so in a youth work context.

This means that we’re looking for activities/projects that:

  • show clearly how they will make a difference in the lives of children and young people during this challenging time while helping to

  • build their skills and resilience, empower them and extend their choices in life.

  • Involve young people in the design, delivery and evaluation of their work and are keen to keep learning about their work so that their ability to make a difference in children and young people’s lives can keep on improving.

  • Provide good value for money.

We expect organisations to:

  • Have a track record of working in the area and with similar projects.

  • Strong safety and safeguarding policies and procedures in place.

  • Have diverse sources of income and sound financial management.

  • Have a management committee or trustee board of no less than three unrelated people with a good range of experience.

What are the safeguarding expectations?

We expect organisations that we fund to have high standards of safeguarding arrangements in place. As a minimum this will include:

  • Safeguarding policy in the applicant organisation’s own name.

  • Named safeguarding representative within the organisation.

  • Safeguarding training for all staff, volunteers, who have face-to-face contact with Children and Young people:

    • Training must be appropriate to the nature of the work and must be refreshed regularly.

    • Training should cover both safeguarding best practice and a briefing on the organisation’s safeguarding policies and procedures.

  • All people working with children are subject to relevant background checks i.e. Disclosure & Barring Service. This includes all staff, management committee, trustees or volunteers, who have direct access to children. Checks must be refreshed regularly.

  • Safeguarding Children policy includes clear steps to take in the event of an incident or disclosure, including who to inform and how to contact them.

Do I have to be a registered charity?

As the type of activity we wish to fund is most likely to be in the form of general running costs or unrestricted grants, we can only consider applications from those registered charities and Community Interest Companies based in the area, who are working directly with young people in open access settings. As a result, we regret that it will not be possible to offer grants to unregistered groups.

Do I have to be based in the area?

Our priorities for grant-giving will be to provide practical support to young people in Hammersmith and Fulham through organisations that are meeting basic needs in a youth work setting.

The Trustees are particularly keen to help established organisations to develop and maintain strong relationships to support young people – both in practical and inspiring ways – within the community of Hammersmith and Fulham.

What if my project only involves a segment of the community?

Organisations and projects may be working with a segment of the community, however grants will not be awarded for activities that discriminate or exclude people unnecessarily. If your activity is not open to all young people in the area, please explain why in your application.

Clearly there will be times where activities are catering to special needs and are providing specialist support which will be targeted and these can be outlined in your application form.

How much can I apply for?

As in previous years, the minimum grant award will be £5,000. We are ‘capping’ the maximum grant available at £10,000.

Please be aware that it is also very unlikely that a grant level which exceeds the applicants’ turnover over recent years will be made e.g. if your recent income has been less than £5,000 – you are unlikely to be eligible for a grant.

Can the project being run have any affiliation with schools or PRU’s?

No.

Can organisations apply for core costs?

Yes. We also welcome applications for specific projects that meet the ‘basic needs criteria’ within a youth work context.

Can organisations apply for capital projects?

Applications for capital projects will not be considered as the Trustees will be giving priority to core costs and/or ‘activity’ projects.

Given the timeline, and current circumstances, would Addison Youth expect applicants to acknowledge impact of the current economic environment?

It will be of benefit to the application to outline how the grant will help the organisation to support young people in need in the borough, within a youth work context.

Will you be taking an organisation's reserves into account when making decisions?

Checks will be made, as part of the due diligence process, on the organisations reserves to ensure sustainability.

Are organisations expected to adhere to NYA guidelines?

Yes, organisations will be expected to adhere to NYA guidelines

When will I hear the outcome?

Before March 31st 2024.

Will the grant be an annual funding round?

Although Addison Youth intend to continue with the annual funding round established in 2020, priorities will change from year to year and organisations are advised not to assume annual payments will issue from the Trust and/or continue to the level of a prior year grant.
